Route: «Serra Mariola botanical and archaeological paradise»

We will take a tour through the heart of the Serra Mariola, a place visited by the renowned botanist Antonio José Cavanilles in 1792, highlighting its great botanical and aquifer richness. On our walk, surrounded by pines and holm oaks, we will observe some of its botanical wonders, such as orchids that mimic bees to achieve pollination, or those that use fungi to take advantage of the energy obtained by other plants. But it is also worth noting that the Serra de Mariola hides another heritage, the archaeological one, with exceptional spaces such as the ‘Cova Bolumini’, a sacred place in the Chalcolithic and Bronze Age, or the ‘Cabeçó de Mariola’, a fortified Iberian settlement, which was inhabited between the 9th and 1st centuries BC, and which had an abrupt end associated with the Sertorian wars, which occurred between 82 BC and 72 BC. This is our proposal to value and protect our cultural and natural heritage.
